A 15m feature glass wall for Gardens by the Bay, Singapore

In 2017, I was approached by a client, Tulin Designs, who worked closely with Gardens by the Bay to create a new feature for the remodel of the Cloud Forest. They wanted a 15m wall designed and etched in glass for the Secret Garden in that particular dome. I sourced for and worked with Synergraphic — a Singaporean glass-art company — with years of experience creating large glass installations. What ensued was a year of studying and drawing botanically accurate plants and composing them in a 15m-long composition at the client’s request (all while I was working for the FinTech company MoneySmart).

3 layers of glass panels for depth

The idea was to have 3 layers of etching and glass-prints to create a sense of depth in the landscape. Given the amount of detail and number of plants desired by the client, the depth allowed variations of light that highlighted specific areas — creating a clear visual hierarchy within a chaotic composition.
